ABOUT THE PROJECT
A massive political statement proclaimed by the famous rockstar that states "Because we can, we must". A nod to the emergency state of underdeveloped nations like Africa and the dire need to see the issues and enact change first-hand. There is an obvious color theme represented in the publication. The blue represents Bono's vision and allows us to not only hear the rockstar, but see inside his mind. The rose colored glasses metaphors used to emphasize the importance of not living ignorant of the world around us, but seeing the problems and addressing them ourselves as a united movement.
Typeface
Cuprum is a narrow typeface with a wide family to allow for lots of versatility. The name Cuprum means copper, not gold or silver. Copper is much cheaper and copper is not used for medals – only pots. This description of the typeface tied into the theme of extreme poverty in reflection to the copper pot.
ALBUM COVER
A tribute to Bono and a protective covering for the keepsake book, the album cover gives a sneak peek to what's inside and showcases the metaphor of rose colored glasses with the use of the book's main pattern. Changing the highlights from rose to blue represents Bono's point of view and allows the reader to immerse themselves within the rockstar's mind and within the publication.
PROCESS
The imagery was a collection of stock photos, either colorized for the blue lens filter or turned into black and whites. Composing each spread took a long time, but turned out to be quite fruitful as it allows us to read and visualize the inside of Bono's mind. Just like the rockstar himself, the spreads can appear rough around the edges but ultimately deliver a powerful underlying message. This image is the end result of all the spreads cumulative art organized on a round coffee table.
